David Ian Lee

David Ian Lee is an award winning theatre director and actor from Newport Beach, California. Lee graduated from Arizona University in 2001 with a degree in directing and acting. Since then he has worked in various theatres mainly in Nashville, Tennessee and Normal, Illinois. In this wide portfolio Lee has directed plays ranging from Shakespeare to more modern plays such as Angels in America. Lee has also taught theatre across the country from Illinois State University to Middle Tennessee University. In his teachings Lee likes to emphasize various aspects of directing (focus including devised practices, new works, Shakespeare & “Original Practices”), acting (focus including the Meisner approach, System/Method practices) script analysis(focus including Aristotelian form, mythic structure, cinematic devices and concepts), and playwriting (focus including political theatre, linear v. nonlinear practices, adaptation, devised works). Due to his success as a director, actor and playwright Lee has won multiple awards. In 2008 Lee was nominated for outstanding actor in the NY Innovative Theatre Award for his work in Reckoning of Kit and Little Boots. In 2015 Lee won the Mask & Hammer Award for Best Production, and a different award for best direction in The Next Room. Finally now in Nashville Lee was awarded as Best New Director in the Nashville Scene Magazine. For more information, visit this site:
